New Law To Switch Left Lane For Passing To The Right

Florida – A new law is currently in review to switch the passing lanes on all public roads from left to right.

Currently, the law requires drivers to treat the left lane as a passing lane. However, due to the overwhelming complaints that drivers aren’t merging over to the right to let vehicles pass, the state is considering changing the law.

“There’s been a lot of reports of people staying on the left lane and driving slow, which causes people to get agitated, leading to more accidents and traffic jams,” says Ben Finster, Lead Engineer of Statistical Analysis for the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).

“Drivers would have to pass the slow cars on their right, sometimes by merging over multiple lanes at once to circumvent a nest of vehicles. This poses a great risk for all drivers,” Ben added.

When the new law gets approved, the state is looking to have it effective within 2 months of approval date.

“This will be a great win,” says Senator Jessica Forsythe, who worked closely with Ben to introduce the new bill. “We are looking to have a lot of stress reduced for all drivers who are trying to safely commute to their locations. Best of all, those with handicap and veterans license plates, and soccer moms can be firmly ensconced in the left lane as much as they want.”

Senator Forsythe also has plans to have high beams on headlights turned on as mandatory for all vehicles. This is to ensure everyone to have the same standards as tall pickup trucks with LED lights, which cover the driver’s vehicle rear view mirrors.
